Song For Chase
(Let My New World Begin)

written by Richard Karch

Let me out
Let me in
Just let my
new world begin
I'm your kid
I'm your friend
And I'll be lovin you
til the end

Let my new world begin
Let's have a brand new world
Let my new world begin
A world of hope.....
And peace
Without an end

Don't quite know
Just where I've been
A place of life
From deep within
A heartfelt song
A gentle grin

As I grow
Teach me well
Respect for all
In the world
Reach out hands
Our love will spread
Throughout all lands

We asked Richard Karch who wrote the song for some clue as to how he came to write the thing. He wrote: "Chase is my niece Bonny's baby boy who was born last Febuary-just a few days before his mom's 18th birthday. I wrote most of the song last February during Bonny's baby shower (baby Chase was early). I guess the impetus for writing the song was the influence the Iraq war was having on everyone, especially me, and finding that people in Redding, CA seemed very supportive of Bush's conquests. (No one mentioned our antiwar bumper stickers though...) I was of the mind, also, that what Bush wanted/wants is never ending war and that fresh new Chase would be available as war fodder in the future. I really felt frustrated not being able to discuss the war and felt a simple peace minded song could be helpful."

Here's what Sliver had to say about how this song got made in a note to his friend who wrote the song: "After a six day week at the shitshop, I picked up the guitar Sunday morning and started torturing your sweet tune and the attached mp3 file is evidence of some of what happened. For a while it sort of sounded like Hudie Ledbetter might have done it in some saloon in the thirties or forties and for a while it was sort of a Virgin Island shuffle but in whatever form, man, I like this song and it makes me smile. Hope the tune brings a smile. I like to pretend I'm hearing it on a car radio someplace a long time ago."
