Orrin White
(1883&endash;1969)
Orrin White loved Mexico, especially the
Guanajuato area, and spent several months a year down there.
I bought the first of these paintings ("The Street of the
Kiss") out of the permanent collection of the Los Angeles
County Museum of Art, after renting it during their "rental
program" period in the1950s. The other I bought directly
from the artist at his home/studio in Pasadena. We became
good friends over the years, and I enjoyed visiting him at
his studio, watching him work, and admiring his personal
collection, which included a large number of his own works,
as well as those of other artists.
Both of these works were painted in
downtown Guanajuato, Mexico, in the late '50s or early
'60s.
