A Lost Son?

How did it happen?, what made it fade?
the love and affection from ground so well laid
the sharing and laughter was easy to glean
only a father and son felt the bond it would seem
but then something happened along the way
what was it my son?, what did we say?
what did we do that would change forever
the closeness we felt no one could sever?
how often we tried to put things back together
only to fail at every endeavor
was it meant to be this way from the start
were we destined to live our lives far apart
or was the effort to feeble from both you and me
for it seem failure followed us, it just had to be
forgive me my son for these long wasted years
for the dim light of age invades my worst fears
are we destined to part this world alone
or will God reunight the bond we had known.
